If I were to provide a summary of my past week, the article would include the words “painting” and “working” repeated numerous times. For the sake of allowing more time for painting, I put some items on hold for a bit – like exercise – and now that I’m getting back into it full bore, am regretting the time off. My muscles are screaming at me!
I enjoyed the devoted hours towards painting, though. This is the most recent completed painting. Or at least I believe it is finished; I’m giving my mind some time to decide. It is looser than what I normally paint, so I’m trying to wrap my artistic eye around the unrefined areas.
I really like the colors – it is my preferred palette of blues, deep greens, gray and white – and the technique I used is different than my previous work. It felt much more natural than my usual approach. Lately I’ve been extremely inspired by clouds and the organic, abstract art they create. This inspiration is very evident in this painting. And there are more to come! Another painting is in the middle stages now, so be on the look out for it.
Being in my home studio has been my focus, but I didn’t paint every second of the day. During my time off, I discovered some fun things and thought I’d share those goodies with you!
A few food goodies…
Cadbury candies: I have loved Cadbury cream eggs since their first appearance in my Easter basket. My love for the mini eggs is also intense. I found these white chocolate eggs at Target and thought I’d give them a try. The milk chocolate eggs are still my favorite, but I like these as a change of pace.
Trader Joe’s Healthy 8 chopped veggie mix: Let me be honest, I bought a few bags of those mini eggs and all that sugar needs to be balanced out. After all, we have swim suit season coming on the heels of Easter season. Enter the Healthy 8 chopped veggie mix. I saute this great mix in a skillet then add scrambled eggs, salsa and sriracha. My husband puts it in a burrito with cheese and mayo and is a happy man. This will be our dinner tonight since I noticed the sell by date – ahem, two days ago – as I was taking the picture.
Trader Jacques’ A Dozen Macarons Variés: These look like edible pillows. The different flavors are: Apricot, Coconut, Fig, Salted Caramel, Lemon, and Pistachio. My husband and I enjoyed the Pistachio the best, which surprised me because I rarely like anything pistachio flavored. They are adorable, but next time I’m going to pick up the vanilla and chocolate assortment. We just weren’t fans of most of the flavors…so you wonder why they are pictured here?
Because they were so beautiful! They were fun to photograph, so that accounts for something.
Two cosmetic goodies…
OPI avojuice lotion: My mom gifted me with an OPI lotion sampler at Christmas and I loved the products! Those little lotions kept my hands moisturized throughout winter and they smelled fantastic. I chose this scent, Coconut Melon, since it was the least ‘girly’ of all the scents in case my husband needs to use it. The bottle is attractive and I keep it out on my kitchen bar counter.
Vaseline rosy lips and cocoa butter lip therapy: I’ve been using the rosy lips gloss for years, but found the cocoa butter option this year. I can’t say enough great things about the rosy lips version, which has a soft pink tint as well as the quiet scent of roses. The cocoa butter flavor is uncolored and has the pleasant creamy smell of, well, cocoa butter. They both are fantastic for moisturizing and adding shine.
A cinematic goodie…
Cold Comfort Farm movie: My husband had to work late one night last week, so I settled in for a movie night. I had requested some movies from the library that didn’t arrive in time, but I’m glad they didn’t! I hopped onto Hoopla and discovered this gem of a movie, “Cold Comfort Farm.” It was the perfect feel-good movie with lovely wit. I learned later it was a made-for-tv movie, but I wouldn’t have suspected this.
And a random goodie…
Outdoors!: And lastly, my favorite thing right now is Spring! That green grass is just wonderful. This is the view off our balcony. We live in a condo complex, so we get to enjoy the fruits of the landscaper’s labors and I’m so thankful for it!
